Volunteers play a vital role in allowing the Museum to create a warm, welcome and engaging atmosphere for our members and visitors.
- Assist with welcoming guests to Driehaus Museum events and programs. Requires evening and weekend availability.
- Answer questions and interact with guests at our Weekend Welcome Desk. Requires weekend availability.
- Make Thank You and Welcome calls to new members and donors. Schedule is flexible.

The Museum asks that you commit to volunteering with the Museum a minimum of 16 hours per month.
Employees of The Richard H. Driehaus Museum advance the Museum’s educational mission by deepening visitors’ knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of the historic architecture and design in the Gilded Age mansion of Chicago entrepreneur Samuel Mayo Nickerson.
Museum Retail Manager
The Driehaus Museum is currently accepting applications for a full-time Museum Retail Manager. Duties include, but aren’t limited to, managing all aspects of the Museum’ retail operations (Museum Store, Navy Pier Store, and Online Store) with the goal of maximizing revenues while also aligning product with the Museum’s mission and collections. The Manager ensures that Stores exemplify the Museum’s standards of excellence in appearance, product, and customer service. The Manager supervises all shop staff and handles or manages product development, merchandising, inventory management, and budget.
The ideal candidate will have a 4-year college degree with a bachelor’s or master’s in business preferred; at least 2 years at a responsible retail position at a boutique, museum or other cultural institution store; inventory management experience required; and a strong sense of aesthetics, elegance, and refinement to develop and sell products and merchandise in alignment with the Museum’s mission and standards. Product development and purchasing experience preferred, along with flexibility in scheduling as some weekends, evenings, and mornings may be required.
