2018 Signature Lecture: Mansions and Matrons: Women, Wealth, and the Power Houses of America’s Gilded Age

Wednesday, October 10 , 2018

Note: The date for this event has changed since the publication of our seasonal brochure and will be held on Wednesday, October 10. Thank you.

This year’s Signature Lecture continues our year-long exploration of women and design by examining the role women played in the rise of the luxurious mansion in America’s Gilded Age. From New York’s Alva Vanderbilt to California’s Arabella Huntington, women played a central role in creating the extravagant settings for social ladder climbing. The discussion will be led by decorative arts historian and curator, Ulysses G. Dietz, Chief Curator and Interim Co-Director at The Newark Museum.

Doors open at 5:30pm, lecture begins at 6pm with reception from
7-8pm.

The evening will include cocktails and light hors-d’oeuvres. Guests must be 21 or over.
