Construction begins on the John B. Murphy Memorial building
The John B. Murphy Memorial Auditorium was constructed by the American College of Surgeons to serve as a meeting space next to their new headquarters in the Nickerson Mansion. Designed by the architectural firm of Marshall & Fox, the auditorium was constructed between 1923-1926, replacing the Nickerson Mansion carriage house. The architects derived inspiration from the Chapel of Our Lady of Consolation in Paris, designing the Auditorium in a French Renaissance Style.
