Activity Exhibition
Botanical Art Watercolor Workshop SOLD OUT
Saturday, May 31, 2025, 2025
This program is now sold out.
In this workshop led by award-winning watercolorist Heeyoung Kim, participants will be guided through essential techniques to create their own unique watercolor artwork inspired by the Driehaus Museum and our exhibition, Rory McEwen: A New Perspective on Nature.
In this class the instructor will assist the attendees with the basics of graphite pencil and watercolor to create an “hybrid” botanical watercolor with a pencil drawing background of a selected section of the architectural details. The style of work in this particular class will be rather simple and approachable by both botanical and non-botanical artists at all levels. Materials list will be sent after the registration.
Open to all skill levels, the workshop provides all the materials you’ll need to craft your piece. If you have preferred painting supplies, feel free to bring them along!
About the Instructor:
Wildflower painter, Heeyoung Kim, documents native plants of Midwestern prairies and woods. Rare and endangered ones are in her priority as plant population is rapidly decreasing globally. She creates detailed portrayals of each plant and its life cycle through keen observation and broad research throughout its growing seasons in natural habitats. Her paintings and drawings are distinguished with scientific accuracy, authentic composition, and masterful rendering of the medium. She has been building up a digital image bank with her artworks in “Project 200” (click to view). She set a goal to paint 200 native species and hope her art would be used for educating the public about native plants and nature conservation.
