Hands-On Embroidery Workshop

Thursday, November 3, 2022

One of the hallmarks of Adler & Sullivan architecture is the system of ornament Sullivan created, using stylized plant motifs with organic and geometric shapes. You will be channeling Sullivan as you select plant or flower-based imagery to inspire your own embroidery design. Whether you’re a pro or have never picked up a needle, this workshop will give you the basic skills to create an enchanting (and practical) work of art.

Instructor and textile artist Victoria Kolbuck will take you through the basics of embroidery and guide you through its fundamental stitches, including the running stitch, back stitch, and satin stitch, all in preparation for you to take creative flight and make your own design on a tea towel.

The Museum will provide plant and flower images but if you have a design idea in mind, bring it along! (Recommended size: 3” square or smaller).

All supplies will be provided, including a tea towel, embroidery needle, embroidery hoop, and thread. Workshop attendees are encouraged to bring their own embroidery thread if they have personal preferences. No prior embroidery experience is required to participate.

This event is designed for adults ages 18 and over.
