Book Club: The Age of Innocence

Saturday, September 29 1 – 2:30 p.m. Buy Tickets Members: $20 Public: $25

Edith Wharton‘s Pulitzer Prize winning 1920 novel tells the story of the soon-to-be-married couple, Newland Archer and May Welland, and the challenges they face deciding between desire and obligation. The discussion will be led by Dr. June Chung of DePaul University.

Professor Chung specializes in late-nineteenth to early-twentieth century American literature through the lens of economic and class history and will provide her analysis on the way that art and architecture not only figure as important themes in the text but also express specific characters’ desires and frustrations.
