Ink & Outrage Member Opening
Thursday, May 14 5:15-8:00 pm Free; Members Only
In the late 18th century, artists in London and Dublin produced a vibrant and provocative body of satirical prints that captured the political and cultural tensions of their time. Ink and Outrage: 18th-Century Satirical Prints in London & Dublin explores this dynamic exchange, tracing how caricaturists such as James Gillray, Thomas Rowlandson, and Isaac Cruikshank used humor and exaggeration to lampoon the powerful and shape a bold visual language of dissent. The exhibition also examines how Dublin publishers, exploiting a loophole in British copyright law, reimagined London satires through inventive and often subversive adaptations, revealing an independent wit and a distinctly Irish perspective on a society poised for change.
To celebrate the opening of Ink & Outrage: 18th Century Satirical Prints in London & Dublin, we invite our members to a special conversation between Driehaus Museum Director of Marketing and Communications Julie Treumann and guest curators Silvia Beltrametti and William Laffan. Join us for the Member Opening program and reception to celebrate this illuminating exhibition.
